Discover and Experience
Hammamet is one of Tunisia’s main tourist hotspots. The medina (old town) dates back to around 1500, when the Hafsids erected the present walls, establishing trade and a safe place to live here. The site had earlier been an Aghlabid stronghold. The medina with its narrow streets is picturesquely located on a promontory extending far into the sea, and is dominated by the city walls from the 12th century and the Kasbah of the fifteenth century, which once protected the small fishing port.
Café Sidi Bou Hdid
The Café Sidi Bou Hdid is located in the Centre of Hammamet, directly on the beach next to the Medina at the foot of the Kasbah. This is a beautiful Moorish café well known to tourists and locals alike with colourful sitting areas under open sky and with a shaded terrace.
Roman Remains of Pupput
The main reason for visiting Pupput is to get a glimpse into the ancient history of Tunisia. It is an ideal place for those staying in Hammamet who want to see a little of Tunisia’s Roman heritage without travelling to the larger sites which are located further away.
Nabeul (Neapolis) is a few minutes drive away, not to miss on Fridays for its traditional flea and pottery market.
International Cultural Centre The famous architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, has allegedly said that the villa of George Sebastian from the 1920′s was the most beautiful house he knew of. An International Festival of Music and Drama is held here each summer.
