Thalassotherapy: Healthy on holiday
Oberursel, December 2011 – The SENTIDO Hotels & Resorts group is broadening its offers for thalassotherapy holidays in Tunisia. From April 2012 two new hotels specialised in thalassotherapy treatment will join the group’s portfolio: the Rosa Beach Thalasso & Spa in Monastir and the Aziza Beach Golf & Spa close to Hammamet. Since April 2010 the Tabarka Beach Resort, with one of the largest thalassotherapy centres in Tunisia, has been part of the SENTIDO group.
What is the most important information for holidaymakers who want to take a thalassotherapy holiday?
Monia Boughanmi, a doctor in the thalassotherapy centre at the SENTIDO Tabarka Beach Resort, answers the most important questions:
What can thalassotherapy treatment achieve?
“With thalassotherapy, the healing power from the sea, many different therapy successes can be achieved. We treat our guests in order to improve their sense of well-being, to support their diets and we use the healing power of the sea for beauty treatments. We can also help medical problems with thalassotherapy. During a therapy of several days that is agreed with the guest we concentrate on supporting relaxation. Moreover, thalassotherapy can be used in cases of ‘oxidative stress’. This occurs when the production of free radicals (reactive oxygen) in the body exceeds a healthy level. The organism is then subject to enormous stress, which is connected to the appearance of diverse illnesses. In the therapy the thalasso treatment can also help patients who are suffering from exhaustion and fibromyalgia. Mild cases of depression, Parkinson’s and multiple sclerosis can be treated in a supporting manner.”
Should I take advice in advance whether thalassotherapy is appropriate for my body?
“Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Advice is especially important in cases of illness or substantial previous stress.”
How many days at least should one plan on so that thalassotherapy works?
“A treatment of at least four days three or four times a year is ideal. There are shorter programmes, too; for three days, for example.”
What is the ideal daily schedule for thalassotherapy?
“The perfect start to a thalassotherapy day is with a seawater treatment. Massages make more sense in the late afternoon. But the schedule depends heavily on how long a guest is with us and which other activities are planned.”
What does a thalassotherapy cost?
“Whoever wants to try out thalassotherapy can, for example, book three days with daily hydrotherapy treatment and a massage for about 240 euros.”
